I felt that I would be doing this blog and its readers a disservice if I didn't post about what to wear on new years. After much contemplation I've broken it down so that it is quite easy:
This very important general rule of thumb can be applied to any time you go out:
You want to dress slightly better than everyone else is dressing at your destination
I promise to go into more detailed later but here is the breakdown for NYE:
Dark Blazer Light Shirt (preferably white)
This classy look works for most New Years Eve parties/venues and will make you look sophisticated and trendy.
If you have to wear a tie why not try out a bow tie - They're in and will set you apart from the rest of the pack. The black tie always works with a white shirt or grey sweater, but don't be afraid to try a pattern and go for the prep school look. Also try using a cardigan to complete the look if you have one.
If you are not bold enough for the bow tie silver, teal, and purple are all good NYE colors that will put a normal dark suit together nicely.
Don't be afraid to wear a two tone suit- Grey pants with a black top is a good mix. NEVER go light top dark bottom! Unless its a white dinner jacket (too advanced for you? I'll slow down)
As for shoes be safe and stick with a pair of black oxfords or Chelsea boots.
Good stores to shop at: Zara, h&m, Express, Nordstrom Rack. All will look good and not set you back for something you don't plan on wearing too often. Come bonus time you can go spring for the Ferragamos.
Good luck and feel free to post your questions.
Happy New Years!
